The Learning Canopy was founded in 2025 and grew rapidly within just a few months, as parent referrals led to a significant increase in the number of children we support. Since then, we have continued to grow into the provision we are today.
By September, our waitlist had grown to over 20 families, reflecting the increasing demand for our approach. We welcomed new members of staff in January, with a further addition in May, allowing us to expand our capacity while maintaining the quality of support we provide.
By March 2026, we began our search for a larger, more permanent property to support the continued growth of The Learning Canopy.
We currently work with over 40 families and deliver 37 intervention sessions each week. Our team includes three members of staff delivering sessions, alongside two advisory role holders who support the ongoing development of our provision.
Although based in Cardiff, we work with schools across Cardiff, the Vale and RCT, including both mainstream and private settings.
We support a number of home-educated learners, including four children who attend weekly sessions and several families who access support on a more flexible basis. We also work with families who access our services specifically for IDP support and guidance at key points throughout the year.
We now have a property of our own in Llandaff, based at Norbury House on Norbury Road. This space is used for planning, meetings, and in-person appointments for intervention support. It also provides a dedicated base for staff training and development, as well as parent workshops and meetings, allowing us to work more closely with families and continue developing our provision.

“for children who are finding learning difficult, overwhelming, or frustrating.”
The Roots of Our Learning
Our membership model has been carefully designed to provide consistent, high-quality support for both children and their families. This includes one personalised intervention session per week, alongside all planning and bespoke programme design. Families also receive regular written reports, ongoing IDP support, and guidance with referrals and school appeals where needed.
Additional one-hour intervention sessions are available at a rate of £50 per session. Provision is flexible and built around the needs of each child. Some learners attend once a week, while others attend multiple sessions, with some children accessing more intensive support of 10+ hours per week.

At The Learning Canopy, we offer specialised Additional Learning Needs support and intervention for children, alongside consultancy support for schools and parents. Our focus is on inclusive, tailored learning that meets the unique needs of every child. We provide calm, personalised support for children who are struggling to engage, build confidence or make progress in traditional learning environments.
We currently work with children aged 4 to 16, including those in secondary school. For older learners, our focus is on closing gaps from earlier years, alongside developing emotional literacy, confidence, and overall wellbeing. We do not offer GCSE tuition, but instead provide the foundational support that allows children to re-engage with learning and build the skills needed for long-term progress.
Alongside this, we offer a range of wellbeing pathways to support both children and their families. These are flexible and evolve over time, rather than being limited to a fixed programme. Support may take place through 1:1 sessions or small groups, depending on the needs of the child. This can include support with confidence, emotional regulation, understanding a diagnosis (including support for siblings), and building a stronger sense of self. Intervention sessions take place on a weekly basis, either through very small group provision or 1:1 support, allowing each child to be supported in a way that feels both comfortable and effective. All sessions are led by specialist educators who understand the importance of adapting learning to suit the individual, rather than expecting the child to fit a set approach.
We also work with a number of non-verbal children and children with limited speech, adapting our approach to ensure learning is accessible in a way that suits them. Rather than expecting children to fit into a traditional education system, we focus on adjusting the environment, communication methods and teaching approaches to meet each child where they are. This may include the use of visuals, routines, sensory-based learning and alternative forms of communication. We are incredibly proud of the progress our learners make, particularly in areas such as engagement, communication, confidence and connection, which form the foundation for all future learning.
We also work closely with home-ed families and learners on reduced timetables who are unable to access full-time education. Our provision offers a consistent, supportive alternative that helps maintain engagement, routine and progress. In addition, we have a dedicated pathway designed specifically for children experiencing EBSA (Emotionally Based School Avoidance), providing a gentle, responsive approach that prioritises emotional wellbeing alongside learning.
We take pride in offering a joined-up approach, working closely with families, schools and other professionals to ensure that every child is fully supported. At The Learning Canopy, we recognise that progress is not just academic. Progress to us is about building confidence, developing resilience, and helping each child feel capable, understood and successful in their own way.
