A structured yet highly personalised pathway designed to develop spelling accuracy, phonics understanding and confidence with written language.

Spelling Saplings focuses on supporting children to understand how words work, building knowledge of phonics patterns, high frequency words and word structures in a way that feels meaningful and achievable.

What makes this pathway unique is its bespoke approach. Through regular, game-style assessments, we are able to identify specific gaps in each child’s phonics knowledge and spelling development. This allows us to create a targeted programme that is fully tailored to the individual, rather than following a one-size-fits-all scheme.

Learning takes place through a combination of structured teaching, engaging activities and peer interaction, allowing children to develop their skills in a way that feels motivating and supportive. By embedding learning through games and shared experiences, children are able to build confidence while applying their knowledge more naturally.

Each child within this pathway is also enrolled onto our digital Home Canopy platform, allowing for ongoing monitoring and daily spelling support. We utilise tools such as Spelling Shed to reinforce learning beyond sessions, ensuring consistency and helping children to retain and apply their skills over time.

Spelling Saplings links closely with both Reading Roots and written work within sessions, supporting wider literacy development and helping children to become more confident, accurate and independent in their writing.
